In 2018 and 2021, Emmanuel Macron signed two successive “pacts”, costing hundreds of millions of euros.

Emmanuel Macron will travel to Sambre-Avesnois (Hauts-de-) on Thursday January 23 to take stock of the aid launched in recent years to support this territory in economic difficulty, AFP learned Friday from the Élysée.

After two trips to this territory, in 2018 and 2021, to sign two «pactes» successive to come to his aid, the President of the Republic returns to Hauts-de-France to “take stock of the two pacts and the progress they have made”specified the Élysée.

Hundreds of millions of euros in aid

It is in this territory straddling the North and Aisne, which combines economic and social difficulties, that he came to announce in November 2018 a “pact” with the State (nicknamed SAT1, named after the Sambre-Avesnois-Thiérache territory). This amounted to aid amounting to 137 million euros. Another support plan (“SAT2 Pact”) followed three years later, to the tune of 100 million euros, half of which was borne by the State.

This aid aimed in particular to develop infrastructure, in particular the widening of the RN2, but also education, public services, cultural and health services, such as the financing of the hospital center.
