We have to go back to July 10, 2021 for Conor McGregor’s last presence in the UFC octagon. Against Dustin Poirier, in Las Vegas for their 3rd clash, the Irishman lost for a second consecutive time and since then, it has been the wait.
There were rumors of fights. Almost every month, Dana White dangles the return of the former double champion. Then, legal problems added to injuries delaying the “Notorious One”’s next fight.
Currently under the weight of a lawsuit, as a woman who accused him of sexual assault in 2023 files a lawsuit against the UFC star, McGregor’s return seems increasingly unlikely.
Inactive for almost four years, at 36 years old, McGregor is no longer at the top of the combat sports pyramid.
That doesn’t stop the aspirants from rushing to his door in order to obtain a lucrative duel.
Jake Paul, for example, himself the creator of major paid shows between the cables, suggests to anyone who will listen that he would take a fight against McGregor without hesitation in a boxing ring.
But this week, it’s his older brother Logan who threw his hat into the arena and let’s just say he’s going to great lengths to get what he wants.
A bold proposal
In a YouTube video posted Thursday, Logan Paul asks the question simply: Will I fight Conor McGregor?
Without offering a definitive answer, the WWE athlete openly chats with an employee and unflinchingly states that he would request a wrestling pose to participate in an epic duel against McGregor in India.
-The problem is that McGregor still has two fights left on his contract with the UFC and Dana White has always been adamant on the subject: he will not let the Irishman fight elsewhere until his contract is honored.
But contractual obstacles are not something that bothers the turbulent Paul brothers, on the contrary.
Logan Paul even suggests that he would try to convince Nick Khan, a high-ranking WWE official, to override Dana White by obtaining the agreement directly from the senior executives of TKO, the entity bringing together WWE and the UFC. Additionally, still in the video, we see Paul talking with Ari Emanuel, the CEO of Endeavor (the company that owns TKO). He directly asks him to authorize the fight.
His selling points?
Paul claims he could generate more than $250 million in profits.
The eldest of the Paul brothers even included an audio clip where McGregor says he could make this fight.
Unlike his brother Jake, Logan is contractually associated with Endeavor and a duel against McGregor would put dollars in his employer’s pockets in addition to his own. Which might make it easier to get special permission from WWE and UFC for the boxing match to happen.
As soon as 2025? That remains to be seen.
