This Saturday, January 18, on the Beauséjour stage, a theatrical adventure designed and directed by Benoît Solès will be performed: “Le Secret des secrets”. This graduate of the upper class of Dramatic Art from Paris, who has already proven himself both on the stage and on the small and big screen, and who notably won the Molière de l’Auteur and the Molière du Comédien in 2019, is launches for the first time in directing, surrounded by the technical and artistic teams of the previous successful plays in which the actor played.
“This show is an investigation, a treasure hunt, a story of transmission. But above all it is a great story of friendship and youth. These are four young actors who will tell this story,” confides Benoît Solès. On stage, Mathilde Moulinat, Montaine Fregeai, Axel Godard and Gabriel Gozlan, will bring to life the fascination for mysteries and treasures, playing the adventure of four young people searching for the recipe for the philosopher’s stone in the archives of the British Library . Their quest is a real treasure hunt, through books and parchments, from London to Moscow and the 17the century to the present day.
A mysterious manuscript
This play, based on a true story, became obvious to Benoît Solès, after reading an article in the magazine “Science et Vie” entitled “We have deciphered the recipe for the philosopher’s stone”. The originator of this statement was Megan Piorko, a postdoctoral fellow at the American Institute for the History of Science. As part of his thesis devoted to Arthur Dee, an English alchemist from the 16the and 17e centuries, the historian came across a mysterious manuscript which could deliver the coveted formula for the philosopher’s stone, this substance allowing metals to be changed into gold.
Sometimes considered a myth, sometimes a well-kept secret, the recipe for the philosopher’s stone has long been the subject of real quests. It is the quest of Megan Piorko that Benoît Solès stages in “Le Secret des secrets”, at Beauséjour on Saturday January 18, at 8:30 p.m. (information on www.beausejour-chatelaillonplage.fr).
