The papal thriller Conclave and the musical comedy by Frenchman Jacques Audiard Emilia Perez are at the head of the nominations for the Bafta, the British film awards, announced Wednesday January 15. The prizes will be awarded on February 16 in London.
The first, produced by the German Edward Berger, is selected in 12 categories, followed closely by the second, nominated 11 times, two more than The Brutalistin which Adrien Brody plays an architect who survived the Holocaust.
These nominations, which set a trend before those of the Oscars, confirm the favorite status ofEmilia Perezbig winner of the American Golden Globes awarded at the beginning of January, with four awards.

This musical fresco on the gender transition of a Mexican drug trafficker, awarded at Cannes and broadcast on Netflix, is, among others, nominated in the categories of best film, best foreign language film, best director and best actress for Karla Sofia Gascon.

Six nominations pour « Kneecap »
Anorawhich won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, is nominated seven times, like the musical Wicked. Frenchwoman Coralie Fargeat is the only woman nominated in the best director category for her gory and feminist fable The Substance. Also in the running in this category are Denis Villeneuve for Dune IIBrady Corbet pour The Brutalist and Sean Baker for Anora.

The Bafta ceremony generally provides a preview of the Oscars, awarded two weeks later in Los Angeles. The city is still in the grip of devastating fires and the televised announcement of the nominations, postponed twice, will take place online on January 23.
