“Frida Kahlo is a fascinating woman who has inspired me for more than 20 years,” explains the latter with sparkling eyes when mentioning the exhibition dedicated by the Fashion Museum to the Mexican artist in 2022. Masae Robo recreates the typical atmosphere of the one who has become an icon of fashion and feminism, playing with materials, the principle of her own work. Relief portraits in the style of the self-portraits of his model, paper figurines to dress, reminiscent of the games of little girls of a certain generation, where the traditional Mexican costume adopted by Frida Kahlo obviously plays a key role… A surprising suspended bustier concentrates without heaviness, the pains of the Mexican artist. A terracotta bust will complete the exhibition in February.
Zeus in flagrante delicto of adultery
Isabelle Cayeux revisits Greek mythology in large format and in contemporary fashion. The ancient codes are there, but certain anachronistic elements recall our times with a certain humor. Zeus caught in the act of adultery by his legitimate wife Hera, transforming his mistress Io into a cow, or Ulysses firmly attached to the mast of his ship to resist the call of the sirens. If the painting is inspired by that of Draper, the mermaids are none other than the singers Morwenn Le Normand and Amy Whinehouse.
