Here we are now in 2025. Hoping that you had a wonderful holiday season, know that this new year has a lot of good films in store for us or, in any case, feature films to watch closely in the hope of getting a slap in the face. The Room Next Door
Pedro Almodóvar is still a very great director to whom we owe many gems, such as Volver or Stilettos. “The Room Next Door” is his brand new feature film and follows Indrid and Martha, two childhood friends who will see their destinies separate: one becomes a successful novelist and the other a war reporter. …before finding themselves again in surprising circumstances. As we could have expected with Almodóvar, “The Room Next Door” promises an intense, human and touching experience coupled with a top-notch cast and a very nice soundtrack. The lights are green.

Criminal Squad : Pantera
It’s well known: Gerard Butler likes to play big guns and is therefore back in the Criminal Squad saga with this new film called “Panthera”, where his character “Big Nick” O’Brien sees himself accompanied by another agent. The elite, played by O’Shea Jackson Jr. Head to the depths of Europe to bust the mouths of the mafiosi, from the Panthers group, with dangerous diamond trafficking in the background. A strong action thriller, probably very effective, if you like films of the genre at all (and there are a lot of them).

Babygirl
In the shoes of a confident and respected businesswoman, Nicole Kidman here embodies an authority figure who will however find herself destabilized… in front of her young intern. Very quickly, a game of seduction takes place and the roles are reversed, where the CEO finds herself under the influence of her subordinate. Beyond the torrid atmosphere that can emerge, Babygirl also presents itself as a true psychological thriller where the themes of questioning, authority and self-acceptance are addressed. To see, obviously, if the whole thing manages to stand out from other films of the genre and above all if it manages to differentiate itself from Fifty Shades of Gray (fingers crossed that this is the case).

Wolf Man
Every month has its own horror film: for January 2025, it will be Wolf Man from the famous production house Bluhmouse. And to tell the truth, we have some hopes because this one intends to establish itself as a pure werewolf film, a genre that we haven’t seen in the cinema for a while. The concept is simple: a family crashes in the middle of the forest, the father is scratched by a mysterious creature and begins to mutate slowly, in front of the horrified looks of his wife and daughter, in a house entrenched in the misty woods. The opportunity to find Leigh Whannell behind the camera, a director who has largely proven himself with the appreciated Invisible Man in 2020, Upgrade in 2018 and Insidious Chapter 3 in 2015. A nice background which tells us that Wolf Man has chances to surprise us.

Better Man
Be careful, UFO Incoming: Better Man is clearly one of the most intriguing projects of 2025. It covers the rise of Robbie Williams, one of the biggest popstars on the planet, and is therefore intended to be a partly biographical film… except that our singer is here represented as a chimpanzee. The latter is anthropomorphic, is played by Johno Davies (A Clockwork Orange) and is a bit like Williams’ vision of himself, who always felt “less evolved than the others”. Yes, it’s a hell of a concept and it could definitely be worth the detour, especially since it’s Michael Gracey who is directing the whole thing, the director of From The Greatest SHowman and P!nk All I Know so Far.

High risk flight
Mega star of the cinema, Mel Gibson has also been a director for quite a while: we still owe him some nice pieces like Braveheart or You Shall Not Kill, and here he is back with High Risk Robbery, an action thriller that takes place at high altitude. We will simply reveal only part of the pitch: a federal agent is responsible for escorting a criminal by plane for a trial in New York, except that nothing happens as planned between her, the inmate and the pilot (Mark Wahlberg). So be careful, the trailer says a lot (too much?) but it could well be that we have a very effective feature film with some nice twists and turns. To watch.

A complete stranger
Great director, great cast and great protagonist for “A Perfect Stranger”, a biographical film about the legend Bob Dylan, here played by Timothée Chalamet. At the very beginning of the 1960s, a folk singer and guitarist found his breakthrough in New York, before signing with Columbia Records and becoming one of the greatest musical phenomena of the modern era. Not only do we find one of the most gifted actors of his generation (who definitely never stops), but he is also accompanied by the great Edward Norton and Elle Fanning (Super 8, Dalton Trumbo, Ballerina). Behind the camera, a certain James Mangold, author of Logan, Le Mans 66, 3h10 for Yuma, Indentity or Walk the Line. There you go, that still makes a certain number of arguments.

Sing Sing
Prison isn’t the best part of fun, especially when you’re there for a crime you didn’t commit. This is unfortunately the case of Divine G, who faced with her irreducible destiny will take refuge in comedy workshops with other inmates to find new meaning in her life. The lessons take on a much more atypical dimension when the troupe sees the arrival of a boss from the penitentiary, who will ultimately also develop a taste for theater: “Sing Sing” clearly promises to be a punchy, touching and entertaining film. ‘elsewhere already noticed as such during different festivals. The trailer should probably speak to more than one person.
