a “very beautiful year” 2024 at the Bernay cinema

“We are doing even better than the national trend! » Bastien Lechevalliereyes riveted on the figures every week, is a happy cinema director. Two years after its opening, the Multi Rex cinema in Bernay (Eure) is having “a very good year 2024”.

The figures speak for themselves: while the national trend is up a small 1%her baby realized very precisely 137 993 entréesthat’s to say 8.5 % more than last year.

So Bastien Lechevallier and two of the five employees present (the communications manager Gregory Drieux and the assistant Teddy Cloet) show a big smile last January 3. For its second full year, cinema theaters “drain much larger than what we did before”.

“A year of French cinema”

For them, what made the difference this year was the attendance for French films, not hesitating to speak of a “year of French cinema”.

“We have a very strong French cinema. This allowed us to compensate for the American studio strike of 2022-2023 which had an impact on the releases of 2024, explains the director. There is French films we’ve been waiting for and others don’t. On our Top 10, there are 5 French films. The big surprises are A little something extra et Le Comte de Monte Cristo. But there is also Cocorico, Love Phew et Guarded hunting ground. » The French film A fanfare, who always fills the roomsis “the pleasant surprise of this end of year”.

Animated films have also worked very well. We can cite in particular Vice-versa 2, Despicable Me 4 et Mufasa : The Roi lion for Disney.

Les blockbusters are not left out with Deadpool & Wolverine or The Wild Robot.

There were also a few surprises in the “Arthouse” section: “We said to ourselves that it could work well, but We didn’t think about that! » And to quote the biopic Bob Marley or A life with Anthony Hopkins.

Some events of the year are worth noting, such as the partnership with the Cerza zoo for the projection of Mufasa or a “Little Cinema Lovers’ Day” for Vice-versa 2 with the presence of inflatable games for children.

The projection of Kaizen, 1 year to climb Everest from Youtuber Inoxtag worked very well, as did the retransmission from the Mylène Farmer concert. In the same spirit, that of Patrick Bruel will take place this year.

Delayed operas, such as Nutcracker at the London Royal Ballet, “attract a clientele of regulars, which grows from year to year », the savory aperitif offered at intermission surely had nothing to do with it.

On the other hand, no live broadcast of operas for the moment, the cinema is not equipped for this.

“A multiplex on a human scale”

Cinema belongs to the Noé group (Nord-Ouest Exploitation Cinémas), which is the same owner as those in Lisieux, Pont-Audemer or Le Neubourg in the area, out of the forty that the brand owns.

There will also be the new Tuche: God Save the Tuche, Paddington in Peru, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoningthe second part of Camelot, Avatar 3, the new ones Lilo & Stitch, Sponge Bob or even Zootopia 2.

The director holds to thank its partners : the MJC, the associative bookstore Le Rouge et le Noir, the City and the associations Bernay Burkina Faso or La Boîte à Films, “thanks to which we are once again labeled arthouse and young audiences”.
