It is on Saturday January 18, at 7 p.m., at the Montcuq village hall, that the Buena Vista polar club will give its show “The Polar can be listened to, sung and tasted”. The initiative comes from the Halle aux Livres association which had the idea of organizing an evening on the theme of crime fiction and wine; an event which is part of the 9th Reading Nights.
On stage, the thriller author Franck Linol, in a duo with the manager and director of the show Patrick Granger, will read extracts from his own books (fifteen in total) and three novels co-written with the writer Joël Nivard , died in 2023. We will be able to follow or rediscover the investigations of the famous commissioners Dumontel and Varlaud.
Readings interspersed with songs
The originality is to intersperse and punctuate the reading excerpts with songs taken from a repertoire where alcohol is served in somewhat shady bars (thus, we will hear Dimey, Ferré, Vian, Gilbert Lafaille, Guy Marchand …), or by credits from noir series and detective film music (Francis Lai, Ennio Morricone, Van Parys, Marc Lanjean…). René Portella will be on vocals and guitar, Yves Dupont on guitar, Alain Roblès on accordion, Stéphane Rocher on piano.
After the show, a drink will be offered by the Book Hall, an opportunity for Franck Linol to meet his audience and sign his latest opus, “The Eye of the Red Devil”, published by Moissons Noires. Commissioner Dumontel, recently retired, left Limoges to settle in the countryside where he is getting used to his new life. The famous cop will be caught up in an old case that remains unsolved in “The Flight of the Angel”, a previous novel.
And it will all end around a table where a stuffed chicken will be served.
