Thomas Dutronc is back with a vengeance with his new album “Il n’est jamais trop tard”, a title that resonates like a mantra full of hope. At 51, the singer and guitarist proves that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself. More pop and lighter, this opus marks a return to school under the sign of freshness and resilience. Despite recent trials, the son of Jacques Dutronc and Françoise Hardy shares an optimistic message through his new songs, offering a gentle touch of Indian summer.

This is your first album of original songs since 2015. However, you haven’t stopped…

This summer, I took some time off, because I needed it, but otherwise I worked a lot. In 2020, I released Frenchy, a cover album. Then I toured for two years with my father. [Jacques Dutronc]. Today, I know that creating songs, playing guitar and being on stage is what I like best. I have to do it even more and even faster. So another new album will arrive soon, we will see if the future proves me right, but I will try to continue, to compose more songs and more often.

Do you have a favorite track on this album?

I love them all. Of course, I love the beautiful guitar moments. I am in awe of the acoustic version of Les P’tits Bonheurs or Où était-tu? as soon as there is guitar, it speaks to me. On this album, I almost only wrote the lyrics and just two or three songs.

I try not to repeat myself, to learn, to go further, to explore unknown universes. But I can’t help but make a few jokes in the texts. For example, on Marilou, I string together puns like “Arielle who washes me”, “I had to refuse Ariane”, “the cougars of the East”, etc. But, behind the posturing, the humor, the swing, the desire is to share the joy of knowing talented people.

Your album feels good. In…
