Since 2021, she has been the face of TF1’s 1 p.m. news. During an interview with Télé 7 Jours magazine, Marie-Sophie Lacarrau looked back on a difficult period in her life.
In an interview with the magazine 7 Days TV published on newsstands on December 30, 2024, Marie-Sophie Lacarrau returned to a difficult episode in her life, as she had already done last April at the microphone of South Radio. In 2022, the presenter of the 1 p.m. news on TF1 was forced to abandon her post for a while. Indeed, because of the use of contact lenses, she contracted a very rare eye infection called amoebic keratitis. “I was lucky enough to be quickly taken care of and diagnosed”, she said, before continuing: “The doctors were able to give me treatment and allow me to cope with the illness.” From this ordeal which cost her several months of absence from presenting the television news, she learned a valuable lesson: “My advice is to believe in our health professionals, never give up and get closer to what you love. The support of my family helped me a lot.”
Difficult to go after the legendary Jean-Pierre Pernaut
Still during the interview with 7 Days TVMarie-Sophie Lacarrau said she only took positive things from her experience at the helm of the 1 p.m. Passing after Jean-Pierre Pernaut, who led the way for 33 years, was no easy feat, but the result could not be more satisfactory to him. “The newspaper remains anchored in the regions. This is our credo. (…) 70% of our reports are signed by our correspondents (…) they are my sensors, my eyes and my ears, everywhere in the region”, she confided. She also made it known that the news audience had become younger. She explained: “There is, among some of them, a curiosity and the desire to refocus on sure values”. The recipe thus remains the same, only the dosages change. In this way, Marie-Sophie Lacarrau imposed her style, which she describes in three words: “Smile, kindness and authenticity”.
“I’m not here to say what to think“
Proof of her authenticity, Marie-Sophie Lacarrau insists on remaining neutral on screen. “I am at the head of a newspaper watched daily by more than 4.5 million viewers, and I do not have to give my opinion.she declared before adding: “My role consists of comparing points of view in strict neutrality. It’s up to everyone to form their own opinion. I’m not here to say what to think.”
