A call placed to authorities around 12:45 p.m. last Thursday reported what appeared to be “an inanimate body in a snowmobile trail.” On site, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed that there was a snowmobile near the man.
Alcohol consumption to blame?
“He seems to have lost control of his machine [sortie de route] and hit a tree. There was no direct witness to the event, which seemed to have happened several hours ago. The coroner asked to carry out a toxicological analysis on the individual since alcohol could be involved,” mentions Éloïse Cossette, spokesperson for the SQ.
Note that the only way to access the location in question was to go there by snowmobile. The emergency services, namely police officers, firefighters and paramedics, went to the scene with the necessary equipment. The man was transported to hospital and his death was confirmed late Thursday evening. “A collision scene investigator assessed the scene. The victim is a 71-year-old man from La Tuque,” specifies the SQ.
