The Saint-Sernin basilicaa historic and grandiose place in Toulouse, will come alive during three months for one sound and light show telling the story of the Pink City. First performance of “Saint-Sernin Millénaire”, this Thursday January 2, 2025.
24 laser video projectors and 200 light projectors
Durant 60 minutesthe spectators who came to watch the show “Saint-Sernin Millénaire” will be able to immerse themselves in the history of the city thanks to 24 laser video projectors and nearly 200 light projectors.
Complete immersion with monumental projections on the walls, the nave, the vaults… in short, on the entire architecture of the building. All accompanied by a background sound.
“It is a visual construction from photos and works of artists. There are, for example, fictitious reconstructions of the basilica, medieval frescoes, artists’ views, all to tell the history of the city and this basilica,” explains Damien Fontaine, the scenographer.
Artists to punctuate the show
“Saint-Sernin Millénaire” will be told through five sound, image and dramatization scenes. If a soundtrack from the Choir of the Schola Cantorum will be broadcast during the majority of the performances, some of them will welcome the choir live, accompanied by the Grand Orgue of Saint-Sernin.
For the theatrical part, these will be three professional actors of the Grenier de Toulouse, as well asa dancer who will liven up the evenings. The latter “embodies the bull which led Saint-Sernin to martyrdom. It will accompany the entire show,” adds Damien Fontaine.
“We wanted something poetic that had meaning and emotion. For this, we did not want a lot of extras and above all, we wanted them to perform on a stage in the middle of the nave,” he continues.
The History of Toulouse
The story of the show is based on a walker who sets out in search of answers about his existence. To do this, he will meet several emblematic characters of Toulouse, like Saint Saturnin, a master architect or even Cardinal Saliège. The history of the city will then be told.
“Through this scenario, we wanted a artistic proposal which takes the spectators into specific moments in the history of Toulouse, through the centuries,” concludes the scenographer.
160 performances are planned, two per evening.
