The Canadian actor, who died at 77, played the pilot Gold Lead in Star Wars Episode IV (1977) then in Rogue One (2016).

He played alongside Princess Leia in George Lucas’ legendary science fiction saga. Angus MacInnes, notably known for his role as Gold Leader in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977) et Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) died Monday December 23 at the age of 77, reports his family in a Facebook publication published by Variety . He left ” peacefully” surrounded by his family according to those close to him.

He played the pilot Jon Vander, aka Gold Leader, leader of the Gold squadron, the one who orchestrates the decisive attack against the Death Star in Star Wars Episode IV. He also returned in the spin-off Rogue One : A Star Wars Story, which takes place before the events of the fourth installment, where he reprized his role through the use of stock footage.

Born in 1947, the Canadian actor was also seen in Witness (1985), alongside Harrison Ford, in Hellraiser II: The Flayed Ones (1988), In Judge Dread (1995) alongside Sylvester Stallone, in Eyes Wide Shut (1999) alongside Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, in the fantasy action film Hellboy (2004) or even in The Black Dahlia (2008). In 2013, he starred alongside Tom Hanks in Captain Phillips, in what will be one of the Canadian actor’s last films.
