What happened to “Sherlock”? Formerly a well-known bar in Lamballais, today the Sherlock Holmes has become the Sherlock coffee. Open since December 4, Lucie and Aurélien Heux are happy to finally begin this new adventure.

A concept inherited from English-speaking countries

Following their travels to the United States and England, where these coffee shops are widespread, Lucie and Aurélien Heux wanted to bring the concept back to Lamballe. A former management assistant, Lucie Heux wanted to start her own business. His partner, Aurélien, a former construction salesman, also wanted a change, and joined the project in 2021. Eight years later, the building of the former Sherlock Holmes bar is finally coming back to life. At Sherlock Coffee, located a stone’s throw from the station, you can find home-cooked meals at any time of the day, hot drinks and small treats. It is also possible to recharge your devices and work on them. Everything is there to want to nestle there.

Three years of work

“We’ve come a long way,” says Aurélien Heux. The building that housed the old bar was very dilapidated. “There were holes in the flooring, almost everything had to be redone,” adds the new co-manager. The rehabilitation and accessibility work on the building began in 2021 and was completed at the end of 2024. Three years later, the Sherlock coffee opened its brand new doors. A sign bearing the image of the famous detective, wooden furniture and a touch of green to recall the old place, this is the atmosphere imagined by the new owners. “The Sherlock Holmes bar was a bit of an institution in Lamballe. This is why we sought to preserve its heritage, both through the decoration and the name,” relates Lucie Heux. “We tried to keep the soul of the place by preserving the basement and giving it a British spirit,” Lucie finishes describing, observing the walls. “That way, people always go to Sherlock,” she smiles.
