New president, new formula, new path: in 2025, The arsonist will return in a new light, on Saturday July 5 and Sunday July 6 in La Ferté-Macé (Orne).
“The event will still take place at the leisure center, but there will be no more obstacles, and at no time will the route taken pass on a road” underlines Patrick Lecoq, president.
Discovery race
To get this weekend off to a good start, a discovery race is scheduled for Saturday, with a start at 9 a.m.
The racing time limit is set at 1 hour 30 minutes (until 10:30 hours).
“It is open to everyone, not timed and without age limit,” insists the manager.
Participants will take a 7.5 km loop, identical to that of the following races. Disguises are welcome as for The Incendiary, an old formula.
Registration has been set at €5 per person.
“It will be more of a recreational discovery, without classification, which can serve as a guide for those involved in endurance races.”
Note that the organizers are always looking for musicians, singers, dancers to liven up the site.
24 hour endurance races
But the flagship events of this first edition will be the endurance races, the start of which will be given on Saturday at 11 a.m.
“The objective is to run for 24 hours, completing 7.5 km loops,” describes Patrick Lecoq. The maximum time allowed for a loop is 60 minutes. If the runner does it in 60 minutes and one second, he is eliminated. On the other hand, if he completes this loop in 55 minutes for example, he will have 5 minutes to rest before setting off again.”
The race can be done: solo (maximum 100 runners, registration €50); in pairs (maximum 50 teams, registration €80 per team); by four (maximum 50 teams, registration €120 per team). “The teams can be mixed or unisex,” specifies the organizer. During the race, each team must always respect the same relay order: runner A for 1re loop, runner B for 2e loop and so on. Failure to respect the established order will result in elimination of the team.
If one of the runners exceeds 60 minutes for a loop, their entire team is eliminated.
And in the event that the team is still in the race after 22 loops, the 23e et 24e Loops must be run as a team. If after 11 p.m. (and 23 laps) several runners are still in the race, it is the one who will first cross the finish line on the 24e round which will be declared the winner.
For a good cause
Of course, throughout this weekend, refreshments and catering will be offered on site.
“There are ten members of the office preparing the event, but on the big day, there will be around 50 volunteers. Goodwill is always welcome,” notes the president.
No registration will be made by mail or email, but online with secure payment, until June 28, 2025, 6 p.m.
Bibs will be collected in the Salle des 3 Iles on Friday July 4, 2025 between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. and on the day of the race from 8 a.m. Prizes and trophies are planned.
“The profits from these races will be donated: on the one hand, to the social works of the Departmental Union of Orne Firefighters; and on the other hand, to the Sang Relâche association, which helps in the fight against pediatric cancers in young children” announces Patrick Lecoq.
