It’s a concentrate of Grenoble humor. The designer Jipegdessin (Gabriel Kaïkati) and André Da Silva, alias “Memesgrenoblois” on the Internet, published the comic strip “Le Petit Narvalo” in October. A compilation of hijacked pop culture works, and dialogues which maliciously caricature the inhabitants of Grenoble, their habits and their vocabulary.
Among their targets, the “grelou”, a well-known character in the capital of the Alps. “It’s a contraction between Grenoblois and relouexplain André Da Silva. He’s the one who, every morning, goes to the coffee machine and says that he went up to the Chamrousse mountain during the weekend, then to the Moucherotte mountain.“
But the tandem behind Memesgrenoblois teases everyone: from Lyonnais to eco-friendly mountain dwellers. A habit that they picked up on social networks, where their account has more than 55,000 subscribers on Instagram.

In a few weeks, 4,000 copies were sold. Because comics are not only aimed at the inhabitants of Grenoble. “Even without coming from Grenoble originally, when we spent a little time there, there are things that resonate, specifies Mallaury Martin, a bookseller. For example, humor about the fact that Grenoble residents really like sport and Decathlon. These are jokes that you understand pretty quickly.”
And the work is full of varied references and inspirations. Van Gogh, Delacroix or Asterix are adapted to the Grenoble sauce, with references to tacos, cycling or Quechua.
