Franco-Swiss director, Georges Gachot has always specialized in musical documentary films. Thus, in 1997, he presented his very first work, “Bach at the Pagoda”, where he followed a Swiss pediatrician cello virtuoso in the Cambodian countryside. More than six years after having sketched the portrait of a Brazilian guitarist in “Where Are You, João Gilberto?”, he returns and stages the captivating sounds of jazz to illustrate the life of a genius pianist, gone too soon : Erroll Garner.

Born in 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Erroll Garner revealed, from an early age, an exceptional talent for music. Although self-taught, he manages to reproduce by ear, on his piano, the melodies he hears. An emblematic figure of 1950s jazz, carried by the wonderful song “Misty”, he comes to life on screen thanks to precious archive images and multiple interviews which punctuate the film.
Indeed, many people are ready to share their memories of the master. From his daughter Kim Garnerto his biographer Jim Doranthrough its musicians, Ernest McCarty et Jimmie Smithas well as his last companion Rosalyn Noisetteeach part of the pianist's life is thus revealed in order to construct a global and complete portrait of the artist.
