Former journalist from BeIN Sports Francebefore officiating on the channel Téléfoot and to now evolve on Public Senatewhere she hosts the show “Sports, etc.”, Anne-Laure Bonnet is a figure on the French small screen, well known to football fans. And it is for this reason that she was among the guests at the CAF Awards 2024 ceremony, rewarding the best African footballers of the year, an event which took place in Marrakech.
For the occasion, Anne-Laure Bonnet wanted to pay tribute to the country hosting this ceremony, by wearing a sumptuous midnight blue velvet caftan. A gesture which was welcomed by the Moroccan Web, but which did not fail to arouse the ire of Algerian Internet users, quick to claim “ownership” of this traditional Moroccan clothing and to insult the journalist.
On December 20, she decided to denounce this outbreak of violence in a story posted on her account Instagramwhere she has more than 146,000 followers. In a screenshot, the journalist gave an example of the type of messages received. “Algeria tells you… Your mother… It's apparently the fashion to provoke Algeria in this…», can we read there.
Far from being disconcerted, Anne-Laure Bonnet published her response in the same story. “You post a photo in a caftan and the weirdos let off steam. Drink a drink, it will relax you», she thus replied to her detractors.
The journalist also spoke on her account Xby reposting his photo in a Moroccan caftan and declaring to his detractors: “This is not a political position. It's just that I can't get enough of my first Moroccan caftan».
A publication which hit the mark, recording no less than 1.2 million views, and which did not fail to lead, once again, to a real outpouring of hatred from the Algerian Web, which accused the journalist of participate in “cultural appropriation of Algerian clothing» by Morocco.
