For the tenth consecutive year, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden attended the Christmas concert at Gustave Vasa Church on December 20, 2024. This concert is organized by Fredrik Benedict Nybladh, a good friend of Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip. They met a few years ago while organizing a gala for Project Playground. Since then, Frederik has even been invited to sing at the christening of Prince Alexander, the eldest son of the princely couple.

The son and daughter-in-law of King Carl XVI Gustaf are extremely grateful to their friend who has been organizing this event for ten years. As the princely couple explains, it is “a magical concert which contributes not only to a wonderful Christmas atmosphere, but also to the work of Project Playground to provide children and young people with safe and meaningful free time.” The concert is organized to benefit Project Playground, the organization founded by Princess Sofia.

Princess Sofia, 40, co-founded Project Playground with her friend Frida Vesterberg, before joining the royal family. It is therefore a private foundation, of which she is still the honorary president, which has no link with the official activities that she carries out for the monarchy. Events linked to Playground do not appear on the official calendar and this concert, for example, is not relayed by the Royal Household. Project Playground helps disadvantaged and abandoned children in South Africa.

This concert is also usually an opportunity for Sofia to reunite with her sisters, Lina and Sara Hellqvist, and her brothers-in-law, Mattias Wikström and Martin Bailey. As for Sofia, her presence was uncertain this year due to her pregnancy. Princess Sofia is expecting her fourth child in February. The concert took place in the Gustave Vasa Church, a baroque building built in 1901, which is named after the first king of the Vasa dynasty and the first king of independent Sweden.
