Hanoi (VNA) – The 7th Youth Fine Arts Festival 2024 was recently held in Hanoi. The best works are on display at the Vincom Contemporary Arts Center in Thanh Xuan district until February 2025. These creations offer a striking insight into the reality of contemporary art in Vietnam.
The Youth Fine Arts Biennial aims to promote and raise awareness of new works and emerging artists aged 18 to 35. This year, out of a thousand works submitted, the organizing committee selected 148 from 121 artists for the exhibition.
Among these, 29 exceptional works were rewarded. The first three prizes were awarded to: Vang Hai Hung for “Mẹ tôi” (My mother) in the painting category, Pham Thuy Duong for “Suốt” in the installation category, and Bui Thi Yen Vy for “Sau cơn mưa” ( After the rain) in the graphics category.
“I am deeply impressed by Hai Hung's work 'My Mother'. This painting poignantly represents the image of the mother, the bicycle, and a barren land,” says a visitor.
Four second prizes, nine third prizes and eleven encouragement prizes as well as two special prizes for end-of-study projects were also awarded to young artists. Nguyên Tuân Dung thus obtained a second prize and an encouragement prize.
“My work + A Thousand Years of Reflection + is a tribute to Hanoi. I wanted to integrate images of historical sites and monuments into the piece, using ceramics to represent nine elements of Hanoi's heritage. I also added materials like composite and LED lighting to make the work interactive,” he explains.
The works presented during this 7th Festival address a multitude of current issues through the prism of a young creative generation. They thus bear witness to the evolution of artistic forms and the Vietnamese artistic landscape in a context of globalization.
“By participating in this Festival, I learned a lot about the use of colors and composition, which will help me in my own specialty. The works of young artists are unique and full of personality, bringing a real freshness,” shares an artist.
“This year, I am participating with an oil painting measuring 2 x 6 meters. I tell my personal story and the way I perceive life around me, focusing on the challenges that everyone people meet in life,” says another.
“In my work, I chose a theme that is particularly close to my heart. I represented an airy, light young girl, accompanied by a lively cat to add a touch of dynamism,” explains another participant.
According to Ma Thê Anh, director of the Office of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibitions, the works exhibited at the 2024 Youth Fine Arts Festival are not only testimonies of creative talent. They also convey powerful messages about art and the responsibility of young people towards society.
“This festival presents contemporary works created by young artists over the past two years. Through this exhibition, we can observe the quality of the works. Many pieces are impressive, offering a deep reflection on current life,” notes- he.
Same observation from the painter Ngô Duy Hiên. “The works presented are of high quality. The commitment of young artists is palpable. Despite their young age, they have deep looks. Their choices of subjects are more open and their materials more varied. The colors are bold, creating a strong visual impact, with marked contrasts and a mastery of nuances that reveal their unique voice,” he comments.
