Phil Collins still can't play drums.

The 73-year-old Genesis singer lost the ability to play his favorite instrument almost three years ago and retired in March 2022.

He spoke about this in “Phil Collins: Drummer First,” a documentary broadcast on YouTube.

He explains: “I have spent my whole life playing the drums. Not being able to do it all of a sudden is a shock.”

Phil picked up his first sticks at the age of five and says his laborious playing over the years has “taken its toll” on his hands and legs.

He added of his decision to retire: “If I can no longer do what I did as well as I did it, I'd rather relax and do nothing.” If I wake up one day and can hold a pair of chopsticks again, then I'll try. But I feel like I’ve used up all my energy.”
