With more than 60 million downloads and nearly 171 million euros in revenue since the end of October, the mobile game is a success. Middle schoolers, students and thirty-somethings are won over by this new phenomenon of the Nintendo license.
Here are the Pokémon again, again and again. In the wake of the sensation Pokémon GO in 2016, a new mobile game, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, released in France on October 30, breaks the house. With 60 million downloads and nearly 171 million euros in revenue since the end of October, the game from the Pokémon Company, a subsidiary of Nintendo, displays “one of the best performances ever for a mobile game”, notes Sam Aune, analyst at the digital marketing firm Sensor Tower.
The free application is presented as a virtual variation of the famous playing cards that have invaded playgrounds since the end of the 90s, combining opening of “boosters” (sealed packs of cards), collection of creatures and online battles. Number 1 in the “quick games” category on the Apple Store, Pokémon TCG Pocket also has more than 1.5 million publications on TikTok, where many players share the opening of boosters and stage themselves in tournaments.
