The Gurten festival in Bern issued several thousand excess tickets for one day by mistake. An incorrect entry in the reservation system is the cause of the problem.

(Keystone-ATS) In principle, the Gurten festival welcomes a maximum of 25,000 people per evening, divided between 21,500 visitors and 3,500 volunteers, a festival spokesperson told Keystone-ATS, returning to information published on Saturday in the Bund and the Berner Zeitung.
Friday July 19, the evening when Patent Ochsner was to play, 7,500 excess tickets were issued. According to the organizers, 90% of the extra tickets were free tickets for partner companies, which had been mistakenly allocated for Friday instead of Wednesday or Thursday.
No worries
When the organizers noticed the error eleven days before the festival, they notified the authorities. The competent prefecture of Bern-Mittelland and the municipality of Köniz, in whose territory the open air takes place, have accepted this additional attendance. “Safety was guaranteed,” Köniz municipality president Tanja Bauer (PS) told Keystone-ATS.
The organizers emphasize that safety was guaranteed because the security measures had been designed for years based on a higher occupancy rate. In addition, certain areas have been enlarged and additional emergency exits have been provided.
