While the Musée des Augustins has closed its doors due to renovation, the town hall is broadcasting a musical clip to promote its heritage and remind people that a crowdfunding campaign is underway.

Good news: the pretty columns of the Musée des Augustins have not yet collapsed. Better yet, they became the source of inspiration for director Clément Godet, who made a clip in tribute to them. “The idea was to create a choreography made of horizontalities and verticalities, to highlight the cloister, and the columns in particular,” explains the man with the camera.

Just published on the internet, and produced by Toulouse Town Hall, the video features DJ Mangabey as well as student dancers from Break’in School. To the image, the artists add their know-how through ethereal shots, acrobatic dance movements and frenzied rhythms, to regressive pre-2000s tunes. All during a three-minute sequence shot, shot during the day and at night, in the aisles of the cloister.

Magnifying Toulouse heritage and culture

This project supports the crowdfunding campaign launched by the municipality and the Heritage Foundation to support the restoration of the former Toulouse convent. “There has been no restoration for centuries. The columns, prey to the ravages of time, threaten to collapse. The renovation costs 5,000 euros per column and there are 170 of them,” explains Nicole Yardeni, deputy at the town hall.

The choice to combine electronic and an essential building of local heritage is not anecdotal. It testifies to the richness of Toulouse’s cultural pool, particularly musical, and a desire to “decompartmentalize culture”, while Toulouse has received “City of Music” recognition from UNESCO, recalls the elected official. This clip could be the first in a series. To be continued, therefore.
