Neither Melissa Barrera nor Jenna Ortega, who starred in the last two films, are in the cast.

Courteney Cox will indeed return in the seventh part of the horror saga Screamannounced Variety . The actress explained in September that she had not yet signed a contract, waiting to read the final script. Scenario that she visibly appreciated since she is now ready to reprise the role of journalist Gale Weathers.

The 60-year-old American actress says she is very enthusiastic about working again with Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter behind the first opus, which collected $173,046,663 at the box office. “ We couldn’t make a better choice. It’s going to be fun to shoot,” she said to Variety. The 59-year-old director also worked on the second and fourth parts.

Courteney Cox was not very happy with the script choices made after her departure. Particularly concerning the death of Dewey (David Arquette), her husband in Scream 5. « I understand their reasons for putting him to death but whoa! He’s a character we miss. Dewey is so beloved by fans. They must find a solution to bring him back. »

Controversies upon controversies

The seventh episode, expected for February 27, 2026 in the United States, is experiencing some production difficulties. Melissa Barrera, main actress in the last two parts, was not renewed after publicly displaying her support for Palestine, in the midst of the war between Israel and Hamas. “ Gaza is like a concentration camp. (…) It’s genocide and ethnic cleansing,” she wrote on Instagram, proclaiming that “ censorship is real ».

« We have no tolerance for anti-Semitism or incitement to hatred in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, distortion of the Holocaust “, declared a spokesperson for the production company Spyglass to Variety. Jenna Ortega, present on the last two parts, is no longer on display either. If she mentions a schedule conflict, some Internet users see it as a decision taken in support of the 34-year-old Mexican actress, with whom she is close. Director Christopher Landon also withdrew.

For now, only Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding and Neve Campbell are ready to return to the saga. Neve Campbell, however, refused to return to Scream 6 for a salary disagreement.
