The most famous vampire will arrive on stage in Montreal in 2025 with Dracula: a comedy of terrors, the first French-speaking version of the American play, learned The Journal.

A monster success on the New York scene, this show presented off-Broadway in 2023 is intended to be a free adaptation of the classic work by Bram Stoker in which a count from Transylvania settles in London, where he will drink the blood of new victims.

The inherent horror of the story is this time coupled with dark humor and flamboyant characters, played by a troupe of five actors, each playing multiple roles. Since its creation, the show has often been compared to the phenomenon Rocky Horror Picture Show for its irreverent side and its resolutely queer accents.

“It’s a show that has something of a cult following in different circles,” attests Mike Mendell, producer of this Quebec version of the American work. So you have to expect the unexpected on stage.”

Diversity and inclusion

But even though the original version of the show is highly celebrated by members of the LGBTQ+ community, Mike Mendell is adamant that the show is for all audiences, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

“It’s a reflection on diversity and inclusion, but it’s also a universal love story. And it’s very, very funny; we all need to laugh and see a show that makes us forget our worries for 90 minutes,” he explains.

The staging of this Quebec version will be by Hugo Bélanger, well known, among other things, for his work with Cirque du Soleil and the worldwide success of his shows. Pinocchio et Alice in Wonderland. As for the creative team of Dracula: a comedy of terrors – including the distribution and the identity of the person responsible for translating the work – it will be announced in the coming months.

  • Dracula: a comedy of terrors will be on display at TOHU in Montreal starting September 11, 2025. Tickets are on sale now at tohu.ca.
