the essential
The trailer for the future Netflix series on Asterix & Obelix, which will be released in 2025, was posted online this Monday morning. It was produced by Alain Chabat with the Toulouse animation studios TAT Productions.
The event series Astérix & Obélix, created by Alain Chabat, produced by Netflix, and produced with the Toulouse animation studios TAT Productions, is expected for the first half of 2025. It has just revealed its trailer this Monday morning on YouTube. We see for the first time the images of the “Combat des chefs”, which will be released more precisely in the form of a mini-series of 5 episodes, each lasting around 30 minutes.
It presents the beginning of the events of the comic rather faithfully. The series is in fact inspired by the seventh volume, released in 1966. The scenario is as follows: in 50 BC, all of Gaul, or almost all, is occupied by the Romans. The last independent village, the homeland of Asterix and Obelix, owes its superiority to a magic potion. But when the Druid Panoramix, who makes their potion, loses his memory, the villagers are left to their own devices in the face of the power of Rome and must redouble their ingenuity to resist the invader.
A dream vocal casting
The 3D style is exciting, with a 60s-70s design, the humor is there and the vocal casting is a dream, with Alain Chabat in the role of Asterix and Gilles Lellouche in that of Obélix, while Grégoire Ludig and Laurent Lafitte lend their voices to Abraracourcix and Julius Caesar. We will also find in the credits Jérôme Commandeur, Anaïs Demoustier, Fred Testot, Jeanne Balibar, Jean-Pascal Zadi and Alexandre Astier
Remember that this is not the first collaboration between the heroes of René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo and the former Nul. Alain Chabat wrote and directed “Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra” in 2002, in which he brilliantly played Julius Caesar. Addressing their adventures through animation was a new challenge. “Series and animation are two spaces that I have never fully explored, in any case never with a spectrum as broad and ambitious as that of this series,” he confided to Le Figaro recently. “It was like returning to the basis, putting Albert Uderzo’s drawing back at the heart of the project. It was a fascinating and exciting challenge to animate and give even more life to all these characters who already lived fully in each panel of each album.
For this major mission, he enlisted the services of the Toulouse studios TAT Productions, to which we already owe numerous successes in the field of animation: “Les Aces de la Jungle”, “Terra Willy”, “Pil (2021)” or even “Pattie and the Wrath of Poseidon”. The company with 300 employees was responsible in particular for writing, 3D modeling and animation.
The release of this series is expected on the Netflix streaming platform for the first half of 2025. The precise date has not yet been communicated.
