Nouméa inaugurated this weekend a craft market on Place de la Marne and a series of daily shows at the bandstand. A program of activities which will last until the holidays, even if it is not the magic of previous years.
Give up putting presents under the tree? It would not occur to this Caledonian woman, fourteen times a grandmother, who wanders through the craft market of Nouméa, Place des Cocotiers. Even if everyday life has become more difficult, the grandmother has every intention of spoiling her grandchildren. This is what she explains on the microphone of NC the 1st, in the presence of two of them. So in code language “Papa Noël”.
It’s a complicated year, I admit, but the children are innocent in the affair. Santa Claus always tries to please. But he’s old too, he can’t carry everything. We will have to make choices.

Making concessions and directing its spending differently was the difficult decision that the town hall had to make. “This year, we cannot have the magic that we do every year, due to lack of means”recalls Sonia Lagarde, who says to herself “delighted to have all these artisans on the square. They are deserving, in these times.” An operation that the Chamber of Trades and Crafts also wishes to benefit professionals. “By allowing them to sell their products over ten days, I believe that we will also allow them to have income, and a better Christmas”, hopes Elizabeth Rivière, president of the CMA-NC.
The craft Christmas market was inaugurated on Saturday, December 14, at the end of the day. Inauguration which coincided with the first free show at the bandstand. Magic, dance, singing, theater: there will be one every evening, or sometimes two, until Monday December 23 (program on the city website and in the Christmas diary prepared by NC la 1ère). The market is held from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., except on the 23rd when it will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
