Last week, the restitution of the “Singing the Opera!” project took place at the Jacquemart-André Museum. » initiated by Culture for Children. The association, founded and chaired by Bruno Monnier, supports students from the reinforced priority education network. Thus between September and November 2024 a CM2 class from the Gustave Rouanet primary school (Paris 18th) discovered the history and collections of the Jacquemart-André Museum, while imagining the unfolding of a period reception in its magnificent Salon of Music. The students then participated in lyrical singing workshops led by soprano Émilie Rose Bry, tenor Christophe Poncet de Solages and vocal leader and pianist Katia Weimann, regulars at Opera a Palazzo shows, partner of the project. The restitution, in the presence of teachers and families, covered the students’ work around three operas: Rigoletto, Carmen et the Magic Flute. Alongside the three arias performed by the children (children’s choirs) or by professional singers, the interventions of three children, each telling the story of one of the three operas, from memory, without having taken notes in class it is said and in great detail, were particularly convincing regarding the process of discovering opera. With their words and expressions, these universal stories, which had clearly interested them greatly, seemed closer than ever. (NF)
