Will Ferrell believes laughter is the key to a good marriage.
The 57-year-old actor has been married to actress Viveca Paulin since 2000 and said they have a shared sense of humor.
The star told PEOPLE: “I think we were initially drawn to each other by our shared sense of humor, and that remained the foundation of our relationship. I think ultimately ultimately, that’s what unites us, making each other laugh.”
Will’s wife also helped him deal with the pressure of fame and success.
He adds: “Through the ups and downs of life and raising a family – and with everything that everyone has to deal with, especially with the busy lives we have these days – it’s It’s always great to have that partner in crime that you can step away from the fray with and just share a thought and a moment, where you’re both still on the same page, and you can connect from that way.”
Will proposed to Viveca on a beach, but he has admitted in the past that it didn’t entirely go as planned.
Speaking to PEOPLE, he recalled: “She didn’t want to know. She said to me, ‘The beach is scary at night.’ I told her, ‘Shut up, it’s supposed to be very romantic’ I was trying to think of what I was going to say and it turned into ‘So, I really like you and, uh, anyway…’… It was a bit funny, But I didn’t do it on purpose.”
