In the 2000s, DJ Mehdi was one of the first to fuse rap and electro – before tragically passing away at the age of 34. His friend and director Thibaut de Longeville is preparing to celebrate his work in a documentary series produced by Arte, available from next September.
A tribute in pictures. In 2011, DJ Mehdi died following an accident, at the age of 34. About ten years later, director Thibaut de Longeville – a long-time friend of the artist – is preparing to celebrate his work in a series dedicated to his musical journey, rich in experimentation behind the decks. DJ Mehdi : Made in France will be available on arte.tv as well as on the Franco-German media’s YouTube channel, from September 12.
Archival videos and testimonies
Throughout the six episodes of the series, we will be able to discover archive images as well as personal videos, captured throughout the life of Mehdi Faveris-Essadi – aka DJ Mehdi –, from his adolescence until the dawn of his death.
Several artists with whom he has worked throughout his career also testify, from Justice to MC Solaar, Daft Punk, Kery James, Rim’K, Mokobé, Cassius… As well as members of his family: his mother, his cousin and his wife Fafi. Enough to explore all the facets of the character and his pioneering music, at the crossroads of rap and electro.
