Chris Martin likes to say that without Michael J. Fox, Coldplay would not exist. Because it was the actor’s solo on “Johnny B. Goode” in the first “Back to the Future” that gave the British group the desire to get into music. It was therefore with emotion that the singer welcomed the iconic interpreter of Marty McFly on stage, Saturday June 29, 2024, during his concert at the Glastonbury Festival, for a jam session that shocked the audience but also Internet users.

After paying tribute to Michael Eavis, the founder of the festival, Chris Martin began to hum, while on the giant screen appeared images of the actor in a wheelchair, electric guitar in hand: “And here is another legendary Michael, one that rocks everything, with its Chuck Berry riff and the way it hit Biff (editor’s note: the blond villain from “Back to the Future”), ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Michael J. Fox!”

Kneeling next to a Michael J. Fox very weakened by Parkinson’s disease from which he has suffered since the age of 29 (he is now 63), Chris Martin covered two titles of Coldplay: “Fix You”, slipping in a few notes of the Chuck Berry standard dear to Marty McFly, and “Humankind”. “Thank you to our forever hero and one of the most amazing people on the planet,” thanked the British singer.

The footage has been re-shared on social media countless times with emotional comments. “Dare to say you didn’t cry,” “That’s it, I’m in tears,” “No matter how cynical and hard-hearted you are, it’s impossible not to feel something joyful when Coldplay perform with Michael J. Fox at Glastonbury,” read one post on X.
