Among the artists, Véronique Thévenoux has not gone unnoticed. She invites us into her unique universe, made of recovered axes, forks, tools of all kinds, to which she gives an artistic dimension.
When and how did you come to artistic practice?
Véronique Thévenoux: “I have always been fascinated by African masks, their colors, the mixture of materials and the work of wood. In 1999, the discovery of Moustapha Dimé, a Senegalese sculptor, had already been a revelation. Around 2010, when my private life began to turn upside down, I was lucky enough to find myself in front of some tree stumps in the garden. I started cleaning them, varnishing them, a bit as if I was cleaning up my life. Then I found other pieces of wood, tools to complete them, embellish them. So I gave up on the wood and just dealt with the tools and strings. »
What are your sources of inspiration?
“Childhood images, music titles, books, African masks. I collect wood, roots and old wooden or metal tools, to which I combine string. »
How to describe your sculpture?
“I am amazed by these ancient tools made by the hands of our ancestors. It has become a passion that I track down on my computer, that I hunt for at garage sales, or that I find by chance. I never tire of their shape, the beauty of their construction and the emotion that emanates from them. »
