Icon of vocal jazz, Dee Dee Bridgewater continues to renew herself, surprising an audience ready to follow her on her musical journeys. For several years, she has been exploring a new register, that of the blues, sharing her odyssey as much initiatory as it is geographical. In search of her origins, African at first, she went to Senegal and Mali, then to the southern United States, spending time in Memphis where she lived her early years. Each time, she listens, creates and draws inspiration from her own journey to speak about universal themes: the quest for identity, uprooting, social struggles. She now tells African-American history, racism, her femininity but also love. Today, this unique artist grooves, dances and spreads infectious happiness. For this concert, she will be accompanied by Carmen Staaf on piano, Rosa Brunello on double bass and Evita Polidoro on drums. A female quartet for a journey to the heart of the blues!
Concert on November 26 at 8 p.m. at the Colisée in Roubaix.
