For this winter season (November 2024-March 2025), Dance program of big international names on the stage, and this fall is no exception. L’Opera Comedy welcomes for two evenings, Tuesday and Wednesday, the prestigious Gothenburg Opera’s Dance Company (Gothenburg Opera) for two very different pieces but focused on the theme of love and quest.

Crystal Pite: virtuosity and dreamlike vision

For this exceptional performance under the auspices of the Opéra Comédie, the public will be able to discover the “Solo Echo” of the Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite. This work, inspired by the poem Lines for Winter by Mark Strand, was created in 2012. The choreographer, in this piece for 7 dancerstakes the audience into a sweet winter melancholy against a backdrop of snowflakes and chords of Brahms sonatas.
On stage, embodying a dreamlike vision, the dancers try to trace their path before being carried away in a collective momentum and to blend into an organism in perpetual mutation. The bodies make waves, wander, fall and catch up to get closer to each other, again, more and more united… As if the collective force can allow them to move forward.
“Captivating the eye, the dancers draw a landscape which slowly insinuates itself into the consciousness while the choreography tends towards the still without ever breaking the movement. Love, loss and acceptance are at the heart of Solo Echo, this work by Crystal Pite where time stretches and undulates…Brahms’ two sonatas for cello and piano further open up the space and transport us to a mysterious land in winter.”

Yoann Bourgeois: impressive physicality

The second piece, We Loved Each Other So Much, a creation by the French choreographer Yoann Bourgeoisis also eagerly awaited by the Montpellier public. The work promises, according to Montpellier Danse, “to be impressive physicalityaerial, athletic”.
In this work, Yoann Bourgeois deploys all his fluttering and bouncing vocabulary, made of counterweights and suspension points. There will be movement on the centuries-old stage of the Opéra Comédie with 17 dancers !
“Bodies thrown into a almost sidereal stage spacein any case, astonishing by their extreme virtuosity… The piece reminds us of the urgency of living fully. Energetic performance at all times, the dancers put the paroxysmal pathways of movement to the test. An insatiable quest for self-transcendence, We Loved Each Other So Much plunges us into the search for an invisible presence… Love perhaps? »
