“A strong and rare message… We think of his loved ones“, it is with these words that the broadcast of It Starts Today presented by Faustine Bollaert announced the death of one of the program's significant witnesses this Monday, November 18. In September 2023, the young woman came to testify alongside the host about her maternal regret.
At the age of 24, Ali made the decision to give up his parental rights over his 4-year-old granddaughter. A taboo subject but Ali had decided to make it public. She even wrote a book about her story, called Bad mother. In 2018, while suffering from endometriosis and undergoing artificial menopause, the young woman became pregnant, an unwanted pregnancy but which she carried to term, convinced by her mother. Even though she never wanted children.
Ali: sure of her choice
On the set of It Starts TodayAli had said she placed her daughter, Nina, when she was 1 year old but it was only in 2022 that she “signed the official paper to no longer have any rights.“Despite his strong emotion, she assured that she had never regretted her decision. “I miss her butI know it was the best decision I could have made in my life. But I can't say that I don't miss her, I learned to live with her… So, yes, I miss her a little. (…) I am sure of my decision, I know that what I did was the best thing to do.” she said.
A decision linked to his personal history and his childhood traumas. Ali suffered from DID, Dissociative Identity Disorder. “I never wanted to be a mother. I was afraid of being like my mother. (…) Typically, DID develops during childhood due to certain traumas. These identities are created to survive, it is a shield to face certain untenable situations. Without them, I wouldn't be me” she explained in an interview with Le Point.
Last July, Ali posted a video on his Instagram account. She talked about her mental health. “We often talk about sadness but not really about our troubles, we don't talk about the suffering that others have caused us and as a result, it's up to us to heal ourselves. This is my reality, I am diagnosed withdissociative identity disorder, borderline personality disorder, ADHD and generalized anxiety disorder. Why is it up to us to do everything we can to survive?” she wrote in the caption.
