a 100m2 duplex is for sale in Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse

A 100 m2 duplex in the Cité radieuse in , built by the famous architect Le Corbusier, is available for sale.

Living in an apartment designed by one of the most famous French architects of all time is possible. An apartment in the Cité Radieuse, built in 1952 by Le Corbusier, is for sale for 650,000 euros.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2016, La Cité Radieuse de Marseille is an icon of the architect’s work and “represents the culmination of his research on housing and modern architecture”, explains the real estate agency Architecture de Collection.

Located on the 6th floor, this 100 square meter duplex offers a sea view through a glass facade. A characteristic element of Corbusier’s architecture, great attention is paid to the optimization of spaces. Thus, the apartments of the Cité Radieuse were designed based on the measurement of the modulor, a human silhouette whose proportions are inspired by the golden ratio.

“The spaces of this apartment are adapted to the human body and offer great comfort,” explains the real estate agency.

In addition, it still includes many elements of the period decor designed by Le Corbusier. It even retained its original furniture.

An optimized kitchen

You should know that to build this world-famous building, Le Corbusier surrounded himself with other architects, whose hand is still visible in this apartment. Thus, the integrated storage, the kitchen and the layout of the bedrooms were designed by the architect Charlotte Perriand.

“With an area of approximately 5m², this square-plan kitchen fits into the dining/living room thanks to its bar area,” explains the real estate agency specializing in remarkable 20th and 21st century architecture, which highlights for sale the apartment.

The kitchen was notably “designed around a desire to optimize domestic work”.

An interior staircase, designed by Jean Prouvé, allows you to reach the second part of the apartment. “It has a light metal structure and solid oak steps evoking the ladder of a boat coupe,” describes the agency which offers properties with exceptional architecture.

Swimming pool and solarium

On the lower level, crossing, you will find a master bedroom with balcony and bathroom, two children’s bedrooms, a bathroom and storage space. The children’s rooms, all long, are made up of three spaces: a toilet area with sink, a rest area and a play area connected to the neighboring room by a large sliding partition with a blackboard.

Le Corbusier, a figure of modernism, is particularly known for having thought of architecture as a total art. “He thinks about buildings and interior design, both in terms of furnishing and comfort and takes into account the urban dimension of all his achievements,” explains the agency.

La Cité radieuse is located in the 8th arrondissement of Marseille. It is surrounded by a park and has a rooftop solarium, swimming pool and open-air theater.
