The Court of Appeal rejected this Friday, November 15, the requests of Sébastien Cauet, indicted for rape, who demanded compensation from the radio after being removed from the air at the end of November 2023.

He won’t get a kopeck. The Paris Court of Appeal dismissed, this Friday, November 15, the presenter Sébastien Cauet, indicted for rape, of his requests for compensation after being removed from the NRJ radio channel in November. This decision confirms the judgment of the Paris commercial court of May 7. The host and his Be Aware production group asked to be compensated, while refusing to demand a return to the air.

The NRJ group – also condemned this Friday in the Manu Levy affair – “welcomes the decision rendered by the court of appeal” in a press release published this Friday. Be Aware, for its part, shared its “big disappointment” in another press release. “This verdict highlights the excesses of a system where media pressure now seems to prevail over the fundamental principles of law,” continues in this text Frédéric Lamoureux, lawyer for Be Aware and Sébastien Cauet, also known only by his last name.

Sébastien Cauet, 52, was indicted on May 24 by a Paris investigating judge for rape and sexual assault on four women, including three teenagers, between 1997 and 2014, accusations that he contests.

He was first placed under judicial supervision, with a ban on working as a radio host or presenter. The defense contested this judicial review and the courts finally authorized him to resume radio and television activity provided that there was no “no audience”.

Lapsed contract

The affair broke out in November 2023, after a first complaint against the host. At the end of November, the radio announced “temporary withdrawal” from the air of its star presenter, decision taken “by mutual agreement”, according to her. In January, NRJ considered that the contract with the host and his companies was void.

Accused of rape, Cauet has repeatedly claimed to be the victim of cyberharassment, slanderous denunciation and attempted extortion. He filed a complaint, leading to the opening of two preliminary investigations in , for which he was heard at the end of 2023.
