In a move that sparked widespread controversy, the issue of building a cinema in the town of Nador came back to the forefront after the project could not be implemented by the ” Shared Memory Center,” the organizing body of the city’s film festival. The agreement concluded more than a year ago between the center and the community of Nador included specific commitments from both parties, but it appears that its provisions have not been implemented.

According to reliable sources, the Nador group has fulfilled its obligations included in the agreement, including the allocation of land with an area of 2,510 square meters belonging to the group, located in the airport area, and which was to be allocated the construction of the cinema and training in cinema professions. However, the “Shared Memory Center” has remained silent since signing the agreement and has not taken any practical steps to realize the project.

The agreement, which was signed during the activities of the Shared Memory Festival, included a commitment from the center to coordinate with the Moroccan Cinematographic Center and the rest of the parties concerned to obtain the necessary financing for the project. However, the Nador. The community confirmed that they had not seen any serious interaction from the center, prompting the collective council to consider using the land allocated for the original project to establish another project, to avoid losing more time and resources.

According to a reliable source, the community of Nador has initiated steps to transform the project into a civil society reception center. This decision follows collective efforts which resulted in the support of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, to meet the needs of civil society and provide a space for activities for young people.

This delay in the implementation of the cinema project has dissatisfied a certain number of cultural actors in Nador, believing that the film festival is limited to being an event aimed at wasting public money without obtaining a real cultural return for the city. They believe that the generous support that the festival receives each year from public and private institutions can be better invested in projects that bring tangible benefits to the population and contribute to the training of the region’s youth in cinema professions, rather than to simply organize an event that doesn’t receive much follow-up and attention.

Amid these developments, the seriousness of the festival has become a question for many observers, who consider that the repeated violation of the organization’s obligations casts doubt on the future of this cultural event, especially with the repeated promises and no outfits made over 13 years ago. to build a cinema in Nador.
