Let’s go for 11 days of culinary delights in Saint-Martin! A musical brunch was organized on Friar’s Bay beach to kick off the Gastronomy Festival. The Guadeloupe La 1ère correspondent, this lucky guy, was there!
The launch of the fourth edition of the Saint-Martin Gastronomy Festival took place yesterday (Sunday November 10, 2024), in Friar’s Bay. A giant restaurant has been set up on the beach, for a moment of discovery of flavors, in a musical atmosphere. A tempting buffet delighted the dozens of visitors present, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.: a “Taste of Sunrise“.
What is “Taste of Sunrise”? It’s having breakfast Saint-Martinoise style. What does that mean? With this culinary diversity that we have, you are likely to find everything, quite simply!
Valérie Damaseau, president of the Saint-Martin Tourist Office
For the occasion, 22 chefs were called upon, including Guadeloupean David Drumeaux
I’m going to make cassava tacos, with chicken “choukouya”! Now I do Afro-fusion; I mix my Caribbean influences and the fact that I am in Africa now. So I brought back some “kankankan”, spices from the Ivory Coast and we are going to work with cassava, because cassava is really the gastronomic bridge between the Antilles and Africa.
David Drumeaux, Guadeloupean chef based in Rwanda
To these culinary universes are added those from Europe, to perfect the alchemy that constitutes Saint-Martin cuisine.
Cooking is full of things that make up a cook’s world. And going to another country, to another culture, we always bring back new things, maybe sometimes techniques too.
Stéphane BURON, godfather of the Gastronomy Festival
For 11 days, until November 22, the organizers have planned several culinary events. Participants will be able to meet and see talented chefs at work, participate in workshops and, of course, taste diverse and varied dishes, local and international.
