British singer Rita Ora, who hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards ceremony in Manchester on Sunday evening, could not hide her emotion at the mention of Liam Payne. Paying tribute to the singer who died on October 16 after a fall from his hotel room in Argentina, Rita Ora spoke of “his big heart”.
“Liam Payne was one of the kindest people I knew. He was always the first to offer help. He brought so much joy wherever he went, and he left such a mark on this world.”
“Let’s take a moment to remember our friend Liam,” she concluded, very moved.
Sudden death
The ex-One Direction member and Rita Ora shared a duet in 2018, For you. The song performed by the two artists appeared on the soundtrack of Fifty Shades Freed. It appears on Liam Payne’s album LP1his first solo album, released in 2019.
Liam Payne’s sudden death has shocked fans around the world. When his death was announced, some gathered to pay tribute to him, with flowers and candles, as was the case in Paris, in the Tuileries gardens, on October 20.
After the end of One Direction, the 31-year-old singer attempted a solo career. His last years were marked by depression and addictions. Before his death, he had used alcohol, cocaine and antidepressants. The investigation by Argentine authorities concluded that “Liam Payne was not fully conscious or was going through a state of notable diminution or abolition of consciousness at the time of the fall.”
The evening of the MTV Europe Music Awards once again celebrated the triumph of Taylor Swift, who won four awards. On the French side, it was Pierre Garnier who won the “best French artist” prize, against Aya Nakamura, Dadju and Tayc, Gims, Slimane and the singer Vitaa.
