25 years after the first part directed by Ridley Scott, “Gladiator II” is released in theaters this Wednesday in . A sequel banned for at least 12 years in cinemas and which was delayed by the Hollywood screenwriters’ strike last year. This blockbuster is one of the most anticipated films of the year.

A generation separates the two parts. And so it is up to the son of Maximus, the original gladiator played by Russell Crowe, to enter the arena. His name is Lucius, worn by the new darling of Hollywood, Paul Mescal, highly trained for this role of rabid slave.

Finally the Oscar for best director for Ridley Scott?

The story of these slaves who became gladiators is replayed in a life-size recreated Colosseum in Malta, where the secret budget filming took place. At the helm of this epic, we once again find Ridley Scott. The director thought big with never-before-shot action scenes like naval battles and muscular fights. Money visible on screen, enough to perhaps obtain the long-awaited and never-obtained Oscar for best director.

Paramount also expects a lot from this Gladiator II. Since the screenwriters’ strike in Hollywood, the historic studio has suffered an unprecedented crisis. He hopes, with the third part on which Ridley Scott is already working, an epic similar to Godfather.
