Towing the fire hose cart, extinguishing a fire, evacuating a victim from a smoke-filled room, applying first aid… This is the program – among others – of a child who surrenders, until Sunday June 16, at the ODP Kids festival, which is held at Peixotto Park in Talence, alongside its big brother ODP.
Certainly, the smoke is artificial, the fire is tightly contained and the victim is a stuffed animal – bear or dog depending on the workshop – but the power of fascination on the children of the world of firefighters, who host the event, is in no way attenuated.

A fire soon brought under control.
“For a good cause”
And it is true that the offer has been worked on: vehicle visits, simulation of operations, but also make-up, drawings, life-saving gestures and of course shop of products derived from the festival. “It’s for a good cause (the proceeds are donated to firefighter orphans, Editor’s note) and it’s better than buying Disney stuff,” judges the young mother, who gifted her children with a tee -shirt and a red helmet each.

The young firefighters accompany their cadets on the course.
On the firefighters side, we explain that we want to contribute to the general charitable spirit of ODP of course, but we also insist on the educational ambition: knowing the telephone number of your parents, that of the emergency services, knowing the correct behavior to follow when you witnesses an accident…
And for this task we even see young people educating their cadets: the Young Firefighters, in the maneuver with their timed course. And so that everyone can get along, most of the workshops, designed for ages 4 to 12, are duplicated in a “mini” format, for the youngest (from 18 months to 3 years).
