Contemporary drawing
“I have developed a personal artistic journey oriented towards contemporary drawing. Inspired by movements such as surrealismmy work is also nourished by the worlds of comic strips and press drawings, without being locked into a specific category,” explains Loïs Low, whose artistic approach tends towards visual poetry where each work invites interpretation. , playing on gray areas and unsaid things, thus creating a space conducive to reflection.
Mainly using ink and watercolorhis works question the viewer on essential themes such as life, the body and nature, thus offering an open door to the imagination. Certain works invite reflection on perception and the filters we apply to reality.
“In the series, ‘Flower Women’, which will be part of this exhibition, I tried to mix natural elements such as flowers with the female figure, all in an idealized grace or a humorous shift.” The artist cites his influences, for example surrealism, which corresponds to his quest to represent alternative and dreamlike realities, as well as comics and press cartoonsfor their ability to tell visual stories with direct impact. “I use ink which brings intensity and fluidity to shapes and contrasts, and watercolor for its lightness and its ability to evoke subtle atmospheres.”
