A bear with a red hat and a blue raincoat, as well as a small parrot with a blue body and yellow beak, wearing easily recognizable black and red tights: the two children’s book characters Paddington and Globine are the stars of the new Postage stamps. They will be available in all its subsidiaries as well as in its online store from today.
Paddington Bear, a famous British character in children’s books, appeared for the first time in a story in 1958. The animal with a strong taste for orange jam toast attracted a whole community of fans in the whole world. In 2014, we saw it for the first time in the cinema. The third film, “Paddington in Peru”, will be released in cinemas in January 2025. It is on this occasion that the Post Office pays tribute to it by issuing a Mail A stamp and a Mail B stamp.
Globine is certainly not famous all over the world, but in Switzerland, many children know it, especially on the German-speaking side. Globi, its male counterpart, has already been represented on stamps in 1997 and 2020. It is now the turn of Globine, to whom the Post Office pays tribute on a Courrier A stamp and a Courrier B stamp. Since 1932, the books of Globi are regularly on the list of Switzerland’s best-selling children’s books. Globine, for its part, was first published in 1988. Its designer, Samuel Glättli, transposed two book covers into postage stamp format for this special issue.
Snowflakes falling from the sky, warm lights: the designs of this year’s Christmas stamps show idyllic winter landscapes appearing through windows stylized in the form of Christmas symbols. These stamps are the winners of a public vote. By scanning the stamps with the Post-App, from December 1 you can access an Advent calendar which offers a riddle every day.
La Poste is also releasing two stamps of Ice Age animals.
