Your Android phone and tablet have a pretty amazing hidden feature. A fun little surprise buried in the settings section that you can discover by carrying out a very simple manipulation.

Do you think you know your Android smartphone like the back of your hand? However, your device contains a well-hidden surprise that you are unlikely to discover by chance, even if you spend hours exploring all the options available in the settings. And for good reason, it was deliberately hidden by the developers of the system – the designers who write the computer code. This is what we call an “easter egg”, or Easter egg in French. And like the famous eggs that we hide in the garden for children to look for, easter eggs require a few manipulations to be discovered.

So, to see what your Android smartphone has in store for you, open the application Settingsgo to the section About the device (or an equivalent) then in the section Version Android. When the version number is displayed, tap it quickly several times until a new screen appears.

Once on this screen, you must carry out some precise manipulations, like a sort of little puzzle. On Android 13, for example, the screen displays a small clock whose hands must be moved to put them at the time position corresponding to the version number, therefore at 1 p.m. The clock then turns into a circle containing the number 13 and you can then press it to generate different images which you can possibly use as wallpapers if they are to your taste.

On the previous version of the system, the puzzle to be solved was almost the same, apart from the position of the hands which had to be set to 12 o’clock, but the images generated were different. On the other hand, on Android 11, it was a matter of rotating a dial three times, like that of a safe, in order to unlock additional commands in the On/Off menu which gave access to a little game consisting of keeping busy virtual cats. Each version of Android therefore offers a different mini game or puzzle to access this famous easter egg. If you are the type to quickly become impatient with this type of little puzzle, you can obviously go and look for the solution directly on the Internet by performing with the words “easter egg Android” followed by the version number installed on your phone.

In a tradition almost as old as computing, developers often hide little secrets in their programs, whether they are video games, applications or even operating systems. These hidden pieces of code can contain a simple message, an image and sometimes even mini games. If Google has gotten into the habit of including an easter egg in each version of Android, the practice is especially widespread in the world of video games, in which developers do not hesitate to hide references or winks. look at other works that inspired them, in seemingly inaccessible places or behind crazy enigmas.

But we also find easter eggs in more unexpected and unusual places, such as certain places on Google Maps, professional software like Photoshop and even on the Easter Egg page of the French Wikipedia, on which you can also find many clues if the subject amuses you and you want to discover new little secrets in your favorite applications.
