For two years, the premises of Bény-Bocage (Souleuvre en Bocage) having become unhealthySecours Catholique moved to the old presbytery located next to the Notre-Dame-du-Bocage chapel, along the road Caen/Vire Normandy. There is a solidarity shop there, open on Tuesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“O Pull au Vert”
It was named “Ô Pull au Vert”, a play on words “symbolizing ecology and recycling, themes to which people are increasingly sensitive”, according to Marie-Ange Van Emelen, communications manager for Secours. Catholic in Reculey. Various items from donations are sold there for derisory sums: €1 or €2, €5 for a coat. We also find clothing for men, women, children, babies, but also household linen: blankets, sheets, tablecloths, towels.
The store is open to everyone. When you come to drop off clothes, it’s a donation, but when you buy clothes, it’s also a donation
One Saturday morning per month starting in January
Four teams of two volunteers take turns, but new volunteers would be welcome. In fact, from January 2025, the store will be open a Saturday morning per monthwhich will be more convenient for working people and families.
We need volunteers, we would like young people to join us
Around fifty households helped
The food bank also helps fifty homes : many retirees and single men no longer employed due to health problems, young families, often blended, with several children. After putting together a file through a social worker, beneficiaries can come and collect a food parcel once a month.
Two quests are organized each year, one in the spring and the other in the fall. “Unfortunately, the donations are not enough to last 6 months,” explains Marie-Ange.
Our reserve is currently at zero, and the same is true for the global food bank of Caen
A turnover occurs: beneficiaries who have found work are replaced by new people in precarious situations and sometimes return as volunteers.
Our goal is to help, to be a springboard. The area covered by Secours Catholique du Reculey is very vast: Valdallière, Souleuvre-en-Bocage, Noues-de-Sienne and Vire. In our rural area, the need to own a car poses a problem
A concert at the Reculey chapel
