The 65-year-old filmmaker, ready to help the most deprived, deplores a “wealth gap which has continued to increase since the beginning of the 2000s”. For him, “almost all the ills of our society come from this imbalance”.

In a text published Sunday November 3 by The Tribune , Luc Besson says he is in favor of paying more taxes and criticizes the wealthiest who oppose this request. This statement comes after the government’s announcement of a « temporary and exceptional contribution » for the wealthiest households, in order to “dealing with the public finance crisis “. This tax on the highest incomes would concern « 65 000 tax households or 0.3% of taxpayers who pay income tax today »indicates the government.

“The Prime Minister proposed to temporarily overtax the rich, that is to say the tax households of the French, earning more than 500,000 euros per year. I fall into this category and I am completely in favor of this measure. I even find it indecent to oppose it”says the 65-year-old filmmaker. He also deplores « a wealth gap that has continued to increase since the early 2000s ». In , « 9 million people live below the poverty line. Nearly 4 million of our compatriots are without decent housing »he describes. According to him, « almost all the ills of our society come from this imbalance ».

“Respect for the duty of the State”

The one who experienced numerous financial problems with his production company EuropaCorp affirms several times in the columns of The Tribune « agree to pay more taxes, even a little more if necessary ». The director of Léon continues: « Shame on these rich people, most often heirs, who cling to their wealth like a mussel to a rock. ». In return, Luc Besson hopes for investment from the State. “I expect the French State to respect its duty, its function and its compatriots, and to truly take care of the most deprived among us”he warns. « These figures must drop without delay ».
