From the start of the interview, Lise Dion declares: “Health is fine.” Recall that last year she announced the end of her tour Chu got there; a very difficult moment for the one who has always given everything for her audience. His last show was scheduled for December 22 at the Théâtre Manuvie, formerly L’Étoile Dix30, in Brossard. However, during a show in Saint-Eustache on November 3, 2023, Lise suffered a heart attack. At the time, she had anxiety attacks, which subsided in the following months. Unfortunately for our national comic, these have returned recently. “I started having anxiety attacks again, which is weird because I don’t have any plans that would trigger them. On the other hand, I worked on a project for Clémence DesRochers. We will soon see him on Télé-Québec. I was extremely nervous at that time. It must be leftover anxiety from that show.”

Lise assures that her anxiety attacks have no link with heart problems. “Since my heart attack, I know what the symptoms are. According to my family doctor, it has nothing to do with my heart. I have shortness of breath, like when I have stage fright. I have no idea why my anxiety attacks have returned. But I have a lot of energy, you should see me at home! I clean like no one else!” She also admits to starting to have hearing problems. “I’m starting to get tinnitus. I have a kettle in my ear. It bothers me when I’m in the countryside. In town, it’s too noisy, so I can’t hear it! (laughs)»

A GREAT READER

To calm her anxiety, she accumulates readings. “I read a lot of business. I have reached 6000 pages since May. I read that it doesn’t make sense. This summer, the weather was nice, so I sat outside. For this winter, I set up a little corner with a blanket. I always read a novel and an informational book at the same time.” As she plans to write a new novel, she is currently reading a guide to help her with writing. “It’s a book in which authors like Stephen King give advice. It’s to encourage me to write again. For example, he doesn’t leave his office until he has written 10,000 words in a day. These little tips, given from one writer to another, are inspiring.” She also wants to help more people write their biographies. “I helped Shirley Theroux write hers, and I loved it! I would love to repeat the experience.”

A TRIP TO NEW YORK

Despite her occasional anxiety attacks, Lise tries to enjoy life. “I’m trying to learn English because I’m going to New York with my daughter at the beginning of December. I’m so bad at English! I know a lot of words, but when I try to formulate a sentence, it’s hell! (laughs)» Mother and daughter will leave for two nights in the Big Apple. “We’re going to see Rockefeller Center first to see the Christmas decorations and toy stores.” She admits to being a die-hard fan of the holidays. “I love Christmas! We always celebrate in the countryside and prepare traditional meals. Every year I have a different Christmas tree. I often go to the Christmas store in Quebec to find new decorations, but this year we will be shopping in New York.”

THE SHOWS ARE OVER

On the eve of his 70th birthday, the comedian is categorical: going back on stage for a show is over. “I will not go back on stage, except for a few exceptions. I could do sketches with other comedians, but putting on a big production is no.” Lise says she doesn’t miss the stage. “Right now, I’m going to see as many shows as possible. Before, I worked Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, so I couldn’t go out much. This summer, I did 46 activities! I saw lots of things!”

MÉGAN BROUILLARD, HER FAVORITE

Among the emerging comedians, Lise Dion fell in love at first sight: Mégan Brouillard. “It’s my huge favorite. If I stop doing shows altogether, I think it will take some of my audience. I’m almost sure of it. She is so endearing, so true, so whole! I like him a lot.” She admits to following her on TikTok. Michelle Desrochers is another of his favorite comedians. “I’m going to go see his show too! Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance yet.”
