The new formula of the Cravache d’Or is definitively renewed

The decision was made in 2021. That year, for a period of two years, it was decided that the fight for the Golden Whip would henceforth only take place from 1is March to October 31 of each year. But at the end of the first season where the change occurred, it was mentioned that the announcement of this change had been too late. As a result, the jockeys were unable to organize themselves to go abroad. After the first year, it was impossible to know whether the change in formula had beneficial effects in allowing young people and less demanded jockeys to ride more during the winter. As a result, the trial period was extended by one year until 2024. After three years in this format, the Jockeys’ Association surveyed its members and it turns out that this change suits a strong majority according to comments collected by our journalist, Fabrice Archambeau. This new system is therefore definitively renewed and not only for 2025, even if, of course, in the event of an outcry, it could be called into question in the future… The 2024 Cravache d’Or in flat analysis at this subject. “This year, if we were still under the old formula, the fight would have been much less intense because I had more than thirty victories in advance. What’s good about this new formula is that we don’t have to run everywhere all year round. It’s also very good for jockeys who are less in demand because they can keep a little more riding in November, December, January or February. Because we saw it clearly throughout this fight, whether it was “Micka” or me, we recovered a lot of horses that were initially ridden by other colleagues.”
